Fans of the co-op shooter Helldivers 2 could see a new addition soon. Arrowhead Studios, the game’s developer, has hinted that melee weapons might be coming to the game. Luckily this was found by GR.

In the Helldivers 2 Discord channel, a community manager playfully responded to a query about the status of melee weapons, saying It might still happen and indicating that the team has been focused on recent content updates but that adding melee weapons is still a possibility.

The Helldivers 2 community has been talking about adding melee combat to the game since it launched in early February. Players have been imagining different scenarios, like using swords to fight giant bugs or battling huge robots with chainsaws. This would bring a cool new aspect to the gameplay.

“What happened? Well, it’s been a month, not a year, It might still happen. As you know, we’ve been fairly busy the past month… [weapons are] still branded plausible.”

The main question now is how melee weapons would fit into the current loadout system. Would they be a strong primary weapon, a flexible support option, or maybe a last-resort secondary like a combat knife? Balancing melee weapons with the mainly ranged combat Helldivers 2 is known for will also be a crucial factor for developers to consider. Right now, if you ran up to Automoton, you’d get a haymaker and a quick knockout.

The remarkable success of Helldivers 2 on PlayStation indicates continued strong support and development for the game. This positive reception also boosts the possibility of adding melee options. We’ll have to see for sure, but that’d be a cool new class to play as. It would especially be good for stealth players because melee probably wouldn’t make much noise.

It’s unclear when this will happen, but given the game’s popularity, players are excited about the potential addition. If melee weapons are added, it could lead to significant changes in the game’s tactics. If they need more players in the game, they could always add the game to Xbox. It’d greatly boost the player base.
