Recently, an alleged leak on Twitter reveals that classic Metal Gear Solid titles may be coming to Steam sometime soon, increasing accessibility to the games for fans of the now 25-year-old series.
The leak comes to us from Twitter user Oops Leaks, an account dedicated to sharing supposed insider information regarding upcoming games and releases. In a thread featuring a ton of other alleged leaks, Oops Leaks reveals that we may be getting more Metal Gear Solid on Steam.
As they put in their Tweet, “Classic Metal Gear Solid games should be coming to Steam this year.”
Oops Leaks goes on to specify that they have no idea which games, and which versions of the games will be released, only that they will be “Classic Metal Gear Solid” titles.
Interestingly, this would not be the first time old Metal Gear Solid titles were released on the PC. DRM-free versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid were both released on GOGcom. GOG’s version of Metal Gear is actually a port of Metal Gear Solid: Integral, a Windows 98 port of the game.
Metal Gear Solid doesn’t exist in its original form on GOG either, instead being a port of the game from Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. Subsistence also featured a port of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, but this was not ported to the PC.
Fans are hopeful that Konami will choose to make a PC port of the Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection to Steam.
The Legacy Collection was a big deal in the Metal Gear Solid community. Coming shortly before Ground Zeroes, the game featured the four main-titled Metal Gear Solid games, the MSX games Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
Now retailing for $100 online, bringing this Playstation 3 classic to PC would be a huge financial win for Konami, as well as a must-buy for many die-hard fans of the series.
