The Minecraft 23W17A Snapshot has been released, bringing with it numerous updates, including new features, advancements, music tracks, and a much-awaited faster light engine. The gaming community’s valuable input, along with their mods and plugins, has played a significant role in inspiring the developers to enhance the game’s performance.
In the latest snapshot, players will find new advancements in husbandry and adventure, such as obtaining a Sniffer Egg, feeding a Snifflet, planting a Sniffer seed, brushing Suspicious blocks, crafting Decorated Pots, and crafting trimmed armor. Furthermore, the new ambient music tracks by Aaron Cherof have been added to Cherry Groves, Desert, Jungle, Badlands, and Flower Forest biomes. Players can also find a new music disc, Relic by Aaron Cherof, by brushing suspicious blocks in Trail Ruins.
The Sculk Sensor and Calibrated Sculk Sensor have undergone changes, with both types now remaining in the Cooldown phase for 10 ticks, and other phase timings being adjusted accordingly. Crafted Decorated Pots with at least one pattern now display a hover tooltip showing the Sherd & Brick ingredients.
Credits have been updated, and the ability to scroll upwards using the up arrow key has been added. The resource pack version is now 15, reflecting the font and credits update. Developers have made technical changes such as removing the legacy_unicode glyph provider, updating uniform fonts to use Unifont 15.0.01, and adding a second level of organization in credits.json called disciplines.
The snapshot introduces new unihex and reference glyph providers and removes the legacy_unicode provider. Unifont HEX files are now supported for rendering glyphs, while the new reference glyph provider allows for the inclusion of providers from other fonts.
The much-anticipated faster light engine is expected to significantly improve the game’s performance, thanks to community feedback and inspiration from mods and plugins. Players are encouraged to explore the 23W17A Snapshot and report any bugs they encounter.
