This event has left a lot to break down, beginning with an action-packed cinematic trailer. The highlight of this franchise is the dazzling artwork and creature design, so the newest monsters are pretty exciting.

Seregios and its bladed legs is making a big return from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, which makes for some nice nostalgia, and it’s never looked better.

From Rise, the Aurora Somnacanth has gained a new sub-species with ice breath, and the Almudron has a new magma variation that uses lava attacks instead of mud.

The star of Sunbreak will be Malzeno, an Elder Dragon inspired by a vampire motif. For example, the monster is known to absorb life force and energy.

It can even transform into something more powerful if it absorbs a hunter. Players should watch out for Bloodblight during the hunt, which can trigger a battle for life force with Malzeno.

Gameplay Additions

To begin with, there will be a brand-new locale and base to explore. The environments are a highly important part of this game because they create immersion, and a sense of mystery about what monsters to expect.

Players will also be treated to a new Master Rank, making hunts more challenging. However, this rank also resulted in some adjustments to existing monsters. For example, Aknosom has learned a backstep and somersault attack, and Tigrex can spin after biting.

Single-player “Follower Quests” will allow fans to go on the hunt with story characters. This isn’t very exciting, but all of the new hunter tweaks are a revelation for the franchise.

Simple additions like the ability to swap between Switch Skills in the middle of a hunt is going to allow so much more creativity.

It feels like the kind of formula that should have been here from the beginning, combining effects to introduce more strategy. You’ll even be able to set two loadouts beforehand, and there will be a new Swap Evade mechanic that can get you out of immediate trouble.

Other improvements include the ability to wallrun without a wire dash, and to choose when you want to mount monsters. Most importantly, you can now adjust the mapping for controls, allowing more comfort on a personal level.

The Sunbreak digital event closed by showcasing some pre-order options, including bundles and rewards. Players can expect new layered armor for their hunters, Palicos and Palamutes for pre-orders.
