Mortal Kombat 1, the next installment in the popular gory franchise from developer NetherRealm Studios and publisher Warner Bros. Games, has just released a new trailer as part of a new Kombat Kast.
The trailer featured some cinematics that elaborate on various motivations, such as Sub-Zero’s desire to rule. But new footage also confirmed a slew of fan favorite characters for the new roster, including Smoke, Cyrax, Sektor, Frost, and Rain.
Mortal Kombat 1 is currently slated to launch on September 19th, 2023, and pre-orders are open now. It will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and next-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. You can watch today’s new trailer on the official Mortal Kombat YouTube channel:
The roster for Mortal Kombat 1 is undoubtedly going to earn a lot of legitimate hype, but today’s trailer won’t just put a giant nostalgic grin on your face. The combat looks excellent, with inventive new combos and familiar moves from some highly overlooked characters in the Mortal Kombat mythology.
In fact, it makes you wonder why these selections haven’t gotten more attention, and just how all of these ninjas are going to fit into the story.
And for the most part, their X-Ray attacks, or Fatal Blows, look immensely satisfying and feel just as thoughtful and creative as the more popular characters. Each addition gets their moment to shine, though Frost stabbing an enemy with her legs feels like a standout.
There’s also a proper rhythm during regular combat. For example, Rain looks more fluid than ever, with moves that really encourage some creative improvisation.
Fans are certain to enjoy the Lin Kuei art design, too. There’s a streamlined look for each of them, although they maintain their gritty attitude and screen presence. The special effects are also phenomenal, particularly with the natural elements.
