The latest reboot to the franchise Mortal Kombat 1 is looking like it’s going to be a return to the classic series, with many of the original characters returning. More characters are being revealed as we get closer to the launch on September 14, 2023, with a trailer just revealed that shows off Li Mei, Tanya, and Baraka launching as base characters in Mortal Kombat 1.
The trailer is focused on the Umgadi, with Li Mei having her allegiance questioned and being forced to fight against someone from her tribe. Baraka is also confirmed to be returning, leading an army of his race against the Umgadi, looking even more fearsome than previous iterations. His trademark arm blades will be a big part of his attacks in Mortal Kombat 1.
Almost immediately, players took to the comments to state that they were excited to see both Tanya and Li-Mei reappearing. Baraka is also one of the more iconic characters, having been a staple since he and his demonic race were introduced in Mortal Kombat II in 1993. Players can get good luck at many of the powerful attacks and even some of Tanya’s and Li Mei’s fatalities against Baraka.
In addition to the fights between Tanya, Baraka, and Li Mei, there also seem to be some different character models that look like basic NPCs. While these might be placeholders to show the moves, they stand out pretty strongly against the classic characters announced in the trailer.
