The Mortal Kombat franchise has been thriving for thirty years now, and the fans have been treated to a new behind-the-scenes look featuring the original Raiden.
Ed Boon, known for his work on Injustice and Mortal Kombat, just tweeted the special feature here:
The clip is surprisingly long, including over two minutes of footage from 1992. It celebrates martial artist Carlos Pesina, who performs all of Raiden’s classic moves.
And although this may be a nostalgic trip, it’s important to note that Carlos Pesina is credited for a lot of work on the latest installment of the franchise too.
In fact, he’s been a performer and fight coordinator in fourteen different Mortal Kombat entries. Pesina has even voiced a character or two, such as Bo’ Rai Cho and Mokap. The latter is a perfect fit, given that fans will recognize Mokap as a man dressed in a motion capture suit.
Behind the Scenes of Raiden
Pesina’s footage as Raiden reveals that one of the tougher challenges in filming the character was his signature hat, which constantly fell off while the martial artist was trying to perform.
This resulted in some very enjoyable bloopers, which offer more of an incentive for casual fans to watch. Pesina even managed to flip and land directly on the hat, breaking it altogether.
This kind of footage may seem like a deep cut, reserved only for die-hard fans. However, the recent Mortal Kombat movie from 2021 is still getting its sequel, and Mortal Kombat 11 was quite a success.
Fortunately, Ed Boon has stated that fans of the series can expect to see even more behind-the-scenes videos sometime in the future. So, keep a lookout for your favorite character or installment!
