PlayStation has announced that Moss and its sequel Moss Book II, both puzzle and action-adventure games that dominated the VR scene, will be available on PS VR2 right when it launches in February 2023. All of PlayStation’s new VR2 technology will be added, including improved haptics, eye tracking and more.
Moss Book II, developed and published by Polyarc like the original, only just launched last October. PlayStation has smartly selected two winners in the VR scene, which have been highly acclaimed for transcending its typical pitfalls.
Virtual Reality is a very expensive investment, due to the required technology, so it’s crucial for flagship titles to justify the costs. Fortunately, both Moss titles don’t just rely on the VR experience alone, but also elaborate on its opportunities in very clever ways.
Naturally, the PS VR2 will automatically enhance any VR game, as long as its new features are incorporated. The latest haptic feedback would make any in-game interaction feel better. But the key here is that Moss and Moss Book II will genuinely benefit from the upcoming system, because of how well-rounded these games are.
Their gameplay mechanics are creative enough that they both deserve and demand the upcoming VR improvements, so it isn’t working the other way around, like most VR games. Polyarc had the good sense to develop an entertaining and compelling game first, instead of hoping for the novelty of the system to carry.
The Moss series will be easier to play too, since it includes so much interaction. Puzzles can be difficult enough without technical difficulties, and PlayStation’s official blog today teases that foveated rendering and eye tracking will allow Quill to offer hints based on where the player is looking.
