Fans of the beloved RPG series Mother, also known as EarthBound in the West, are going too far. They are calling for an official English release of the third game after its announcement for Nintendo Switch Online in Japan but bothering the wrong people.
Creator Shigesato Itoi, well-known for his unique and heartfelt storytelling, has asked fans to communicate their requests to Nintendo instead of contacting him directly. As translated by a Twitter user (Thanks, IGN), it’s clear he doesn’t want any more people to go to him.
There has been a long-standing frustration within the gaming community regarding the absence of an English version of Mother 3. Despite the availability of the first two games, “EarthBound Beginnings” and “EarthBound,” on Nintendo Switch Online, the third installment has yet to be released to Western audiences.
Even Nintendo has recognized the demand for the game and its lighthearted nature. A notable parody video featured former president Reggie Fils-Aimé humorously pretending to blow up a journalist who asked about Mother 3 localization.
We’ve seen a lot of articles about the translation of Mother 3, and to sum up, it’s not happening anytime soon. Despite that knowledge, the recent focus on Mother 3 potentially joining Switch Online has caused fans to push for its release. Nintendo has not given an official response to the renewed requests, and they likely won’t.
I get it, I want Bully to be remade by Rockstar, but I won’t go after the director to get it. These things must be done by the studio that made the games, not the director. So please start going after Nintendo if you want the game.
