MultiVersus is already building a massive fanbase, but they’ve just announced that sign-ups for Evo 2022 will be pushed until June 1st at 9 AM PDT.
Here’s the tweet from MultiVersus’ official feed, warning players who were planning on signing up May 30th instead:
Back on May 12th, MultiVersus announced that they’d be showing up to Evo. The Evolution Championship Series will take place in person again at Las Vegas, Nevada, and it’ll run August 5th through August 7th.
Evo has been running for 20 years now, and its tournaments are also streamed on an official Twitch channel. The 2v2 MultiVersus tournament is going to be hosted by WB Games, and the top 32 teams will be awarded.
Right now, the Evo 2022 tournament list mentions giant franchises like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Players will need to be registered for Evo in order to sign up for the MultiVersus competition.
The delay may be small, but it’s clear that many gamers are taking the competitive side of MultiVersus very seriously, so any scheduling issues definitely need to be planned for ahead of time.
In fact, sending MultiVersus straight to Evo 2022 continues to signal that the game is intended to feel a lot more competitive than it looks.
Similarly, previous demos and gameplay footage have focused on high-speed chaos and elaborate strategies. The latest promo with some pros was called with auction-like speed. And the players involved were already of a very high skill level, showing off complicated combos and high creativity.
The idea is likely to compete with the likes of Super Smash Brothers, which inspired the format to begin with. But some fans are a little worried about the casual side of things. Hopefully, there will be room for both types of gameplay.
