MultiVersus, the fighting platformer featuring classic WB characters from developer Player First Games and publisher Warner Bros. Games, has just announced a full launch is aiming for “early 2024”. It is currently available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
Additionally, the Open Beta is officially going to be closed on June 25th, 2023, until the full release rolls out. Here is the full statement from the MultiVersus Twitter feed:
Despite a strong Open Beta launch, MultiVersus has more recently suffered a lot of fan backlash. There have been a lot of complaints about the volume of content, lack of communication, technical problems and balancing issues. It basically includes just about every facet of the game, which has even been expected to shut down altogether.
So, it should be a relief that the devs have finally reached out. Today’s video message, which accompanied the announcements, clearly addresses all of the major concerns. They specifically mentioned new content, net codes, matchmaking improvements, and a different progression system.
It’s an outright overhaul, which the game sorely needed, and absolutely deserves. There’s no question that MultiVersus has always had enormous potential, and not just for its vast library of IP. The style and mechanics do provide a sturdy base for fun content, most of which is fairly creative.
Fortunately, players will keep their progress after the Open Beta closes. They will also have access to their characters and the training room offline, but online service will be totally removed. This is a good call, since any further gameplay would just continue to damage the game’s reputation.
Most importantly, the devs mention there will be updates. It’s unclear how frequent these would be, but anything is appreciated following their notable absence.
