Season 2 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is adding four new Core 6v6 maps alongside a wealth of new content. Alongside that, there are two new map variants, a new War map, five game modes, and a limited-time Vortex Playlist. This season looks very strong for the franchise.
Four new maps are coming at the season’s launch, according to the Call of Duty Blog. Three of them will be at launch, while the fourth is mid-season. The first is Departures, which is set in Zakhaev International Airport and features an upper mezzanine walkway, a main lobby, and ground-level exterior entrances. The second is Stash House, an open-plan living room, den, and kitchen map that looks like a raided Bay Area stash house, complete with large cash pallets.
The third map coming is Vista, which features a Brazilian mountaintop resort with gift shops, restaurants, trams, and funiculars. And finally, Das Haus, which is coming in the mid-season update. It’s a remastered version of a popular Vanguard map that’s brighter and more open but lacks destructible cover.
One of the highlights is the Vortex playlist. Decay’s Realm is Limited-Time and comes mid-season. Team Deathmatch, Domination, Kill Confirmed, and Hardpoint are featured on otherworldly maps like Tetanus, Satan’s Quarry, Sporeyard, Skidrow, and Airborne.
There are two map variants coming in the mid-season: Airborne and Skidrow. A variant of the Terminal map, Airborne features a virulent plague, swarms of locusts, and an oozing interior. Skidrow is the same map but has become overgrown with ivy, grass, and vines, reclaiming the urban landscape.
A new war map known as Operation Tin Man is also coming at launch. Urzikstan is undergoing a large-scale war operation. After skydiving onto a skyscraper roof, players navigate the interior and escort a MAW to a PDS. This update will also bring in the Ninja Vest, which offers silent running and throwing knife/star ammo bonuses.
Season 2 brings new maps, game modes, and a limited-time playlist to Modern Warfare 3, but we’ll have to wait and see if players think it’s enough for a new season.
