The original Greedfall released three years ago, but Nacon just announced that they’ll be returning to their action RPG, including a few details about the plot and mechanics.
Popular video game feed Nibel quickly tweeted about the corporate post, linking to the official press release:
While Nacon is currently focusing on Steelrising, it seems they couldn’t resist a sequel to one of their larger hits. Their games are proudly AA titles, so they don’t quite have the budget of a Triple A or the intrigue of an Indie game.
However, Greedfall was a welcome surprise, mainly borrowing elements from franchises like Assassin’s Creed. The graphics were strong enough, with great cinematography, and the character-driven plot felt satisfying.
Plot details and more
Although Greedfall II is considered a sequel, the story will actually begin three years before the events of the first game. Players will take the role of a Teer Fradee native, using careful strategy to rescue your home from a disastrous conquest.
While there weren’t many hints about the gameplay, the devs do promise that the combat will be more “tactical”. This is a big relief, since the basic mechanics of the first game were a little hack-and-slash, and that didn’t quite fit the tone of the plot and setting.
Also, the environments will be even bigger and more diverse. This ties in well with the new plot, which focuses on the “old world”. This will allow fans to explore more of the signature mythology of the game. And the lore was truly the highlight of the original.
Naturally, there will also be new characters, but the announcement also mentions some new factions. This should please fans of the tactical angle of Greedfall, offering new conflicts to resolve.
The announcement closes out with vague release information. The game will be available on PC and at least some consoles, sometime in 2024. Although the first images are promised, following Nacon’s link doesn’t lead to anything more just yet.
