NetEase Games, one of the leading developers and publishers in China, has recently opened a new game studio, called Bad Brain Game Studios, in Canada. The studio has set up offices in Toronto, Ontario, and Montreal, Quebec, to develop an ambitious franchise centered around a story-driven, action-adventure game. This game will bring together elements of adventure and horror, drawing inspiration from cult 1980s movies. It will be an open-world experience, available on multiple platforms, and built using Unreal Engine 5.
According to NetEase Games, this move represents their expanding commitment to the game development industry in Canada. NetEase Games’ recent endeavors in Canada have seen the acquisition of SkyBox Labs, a co-developer Halo Infinite. Now, the establishment of Bad Brain Game Studios further solidifies the company’s dedication to providing Canadian creators the support they need to build high-quality interactive entertainment experiences for a global audience.
Bad Brain Game Studios is led by Sean Crooks, an experienced game developer who has worked on some of the most successful and critically acclaimed games of the past decade. Crooks expressed his excitement through the following remark:
“I’m honored to be leading this talented team of developers in Canada. We’re all passionate about creating memorable and meaningful experiences. NetEase Games has given us a warm welcome, with an abundance of support and creative freedom to allow us to do what we do best. Our first game is a passion project that gives us the opportunity to truly free our brains.”
Bad Brain Game Studios is comprised of a dedicated team of veteran game developers who have been involved in the development of hit titles such as the Watch Dogs trilogy, Far Cry 2, Driver: San Francisco, Child of Light, Just Dance, Army of Two, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and Blacklist. The studio also opens new opportunities for passionate developers who would like to work on new and exciting projects. Bad Brain Game Studios offers a hybrid work environment, granting employees the flexibility to work either from the Toronto or Montreal offices, in a hybrid capacity.
