Fans of the 1997 tactical role-playing game Final Fantasy Tactics received an unexpected bit of good news recently when it was revealed that the team behind the game are hard at work on a new title.

This news comes to us from the Final Fantasy fan site Finaland. The site recently interviewed the Producer and Director of the upcoming rhythm game Theatrhythm Final Bar Line, Ichiro Hazama and Masanobu Suzui, respectively.

While the interview was mostly centered around the upcoming game, topics steered in a few different directions. Eventually, a question was asked by the interviewers that brought up Final Fantasy Tactics, specifically over the cast not being in the mobile game Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia.

Finaland asked “Our question concerns the casting of the game and notably the absence of main characters. It is now the 6th anniversary in Japan and we’re still missing characters such as Rikku, Red XIII, many characters from FINAL FANTASY TACTICS and FINAL FANTASY XIV. Is there a reason for this, can we hope to see them one day?“

In response, Ichiro Hazama explains that in games like Opera Omnia and Theatrhythm, representation of the characters is very important, and so they reach out to the original teams behind those characters to make sure they’re done right.

During this explanation, Hazama explains that the Final Fantasy Tactics team can’t be reached to collaborate on Opera Omnia because they are hard at work on a new title.

The Tactics team is incredibly busy at the moment, they have other things to do. They are heavily involved in another project at the moment so we just don’t have time to talk to them. I think that’s probably why more TACTICS characters haven’t been included in the game, we just need time to find out the details.”

While this means the FF Tactics team is definitely hard at work on a new game, what that title might be still remains to be seen.
