In a new video, Konami shared an update on the future of the Metal Gear Solid series. Noriaki Okamura, the current series producer, talked about the company’s dedication to respecting the series’ history and looking into new opportunities. Okamura, who has been with Konami for a long time, stressed his personal responsibility to the franchise, having begun his career at the company with Policenauts.
In the video, Konami shared a list of upcoming fixes for the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 release. These include addressing limited settings, bugs, control configuration, and platform-specific issues. They also mentioned the possibility of introducing native 4K resolution through a free update to improve the visuals while maintaining the original games’ look and feel.
It feels like Konami is trying to get on everyone’s good side after they made Metal Gear Survive and outed Hideo Kojima. It’s hard to forget Kojima when the legend is still making games today. However, by making these, Konami is likely trying to take back the franchise’s identity from Kojima.
A major announcement revealed the title screen of Metal Gear Delta. Although information is limited, this project suggests the direction Konami may pursue to breathe new life into the franchise. Okamura stated that potential future titles would be evaluated for remakes individually, and Delta will probably serve as a way to assess the response to this approach.
The company has recognized that these updates provide a peek into its development process. It has hinted at an upcoming “bigger” video presentation, where significant announcements about Metal Gear Solid’s future are anticipated. A Japanese questionnaire for fans seeks feedback on these smaller updates and wants to understand whether fans prefer more transparency or less frequent but larger news reveals.
It’s an interesting strategy, and to be honest, I like it. However, this feels like it’s setting up a lot more about the series to come.
