Niantic Campfire and Pokémon GO launching Team Up feature to help connect trainers

Niantic has been monumentally successful since Pokémon GO launched the company into the spotlight in the summer of 2016. It’s hard to describe the sense of community during that time and now it seems that the developer is looking to re-ignite those moments with Team Up in Pokémon GO.

Campfire has been the core of Niantic’s attempts to socialize its games and now the developer is bringing the social features of that app to Pokémon GO. Starting today, players will be able to go into the Campfire app and select the “Team Up” option and then choose to either join or host a raid. After selecting from the map or menu view, players will be able to see what Raids are close enough to join.

If hosting the Raid Battle, you’ll be able to form a group of up to five other trainers before being asked to add them as friends in Pokémon GO while still in Campfire. Once added, you can return to your game and invite them to the raid remotely.

On the other side of this, players can also use the platform to join Raids hosted by others, with the program automatically allowing you to join a raid someone else is hosting. While you can’t communicate with other players in direct text, Team Up will use pre-set messages to protect its range of users while still allowing them to be social.

This change should make finding people to complete raids with a lot easier and create better approachability for people who want to join the fun from afar.
