Star Wars Republic Commando originally launched nearly twenty years ago in 2005, but it continues to outshine some of the most expensive Star Wars games developed today. In April of 2021, the team tactics shooter finally arrived on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. So, unfamiliar Star Wars fans can review some gameplay in the Switch announcement trailer here:
Star Wars Republic Commando remains a fan favorite title because of its sincere storytelling and innovative mechanics.
The big hook of Star Wars Republic Commando is the player’s ability to literally command their squad. This wasn’t just a tricky and inventive take on the Star Wars universe, but also a clever way to establish responsibility and emotional investment.
The devs made sure to keep the plot explosive and thrilling, throughout. But the foundation of personal relationships both informs and improves the experience.
The story probably has a feasible runtime for skilled players to complete the game with just the free trial. But it may be worth purchasing so that you can really soak in the environments and smaller moments, so the corresponding sale is definitely beneficial for newcomers.
