Nintendo has just announced that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the next highly anticipated installment in the beloved franchise, will officially show off “roughly 10 minutes” of gameplay this week.

The new footage will arrive tomorrow, March 28th, 2023, at 7 AM pacific time. Fans can watch the showcase on the official Nintendo YouTube channel, where Series producer Eiji Aonuma is set to host.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is slated to launch on May 12th, 2023. It will be available on the Nintendo Switch. Here is the full gameplay announcement from Nintendo’s Twitter feed:

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launched six years ago this month, which is hard to believe, but it has been an incredible wait for the next Zelda game. Breath of the Wild was also one of the most successful, invigorating, and beautiful games in the entire industry, let alone the series.

So, expectations are at a fever pitch, and all teasers for Tears of the Kingdom have hinted that the quality should remain intact. However, details have been surprisingly small, with only broad concepts to consider. An extensive gameplay showcase can be very telling, as in the recent Wuthering Waves reveal, another upcoming open world RPG.

Tears of the Kingdom will have a great opportunity to show if the franchise can elaborate and improve without losing the spirit of its predecessor. That’s a big ask, since Breath of the Wild had such an immersive, lush, and inventive world.

There likely won’t be very much in the way of storytelling in tomorrow’s showcase, but it would be nice to see more about the relationship players will have with the skies. There has been an intriguing focus on verticality that makes Tears of the Kingdom feel even more expansive.
