Garry’s Mod, a well-liked physics sandbox game, is undergoing major content clean-up. The developers, Facepunch Studios, have received instructions to eliminate all Nintendo-related content from the game’s Steam Workshop. Nintendo is the source of the confirmed takedown notice.

This decision shows how serious Nintendo is about protecting its own content. Facepunch Studios admitted that this was Nintendo’s content, and it would be up to them to decide if it could be used or not. The developers are now removing all Nintendo-related content and have reached out to the community for help in finding and removing any remaining mods or assets with Nintendo characters and franchises.

“Some of you may have noticed that certain Nintendo related workshop items have recently been taken down. This is not a mistake, the takedowns came from Nintendo. Honestly, this is fair enough. This is Nintendo’s content and what they allow and don’t allow is up to them. They don’t want you playing with that stuff in Garry’s Mod – that’s their decision, we have to respect that and take down as much as we can. This is an ongoing process, as we have 20 years of uploads to go through. If you want to help us by deleting your Nintendo related uploads and never uploading them again, that would help us a lot.”

The rising popularity of Garry’s Mod is because of its open-ended design, which fosters the creation of user-generated content. The game’s Steam Workshop has accumulated many Nintendo-themed creations over the years, showcasing the community’s keen interest in incorporating Nintendo’s beloved characters and environments into their Garry’s Mod sessions.

The timing of this takedown is a bit unexpected, considering that Nintendo content has been on the Garry’s Mod Workshop for a long time. However, most would agree that it was a long time since, eventually, Nintendo would catch on.
