Nintendo sent out a post to tell their users that they are phasing out of account fund merges between Nintendo Network IDs (NNIDs) and Nintendo Accounts. As of March 11, 2024, 10:00 PM Pacific Time (PT), you won’t be able to combine these accounts’ eShop balances. This means that everyone has less than two months to do this before it is no longer possible.
This change primarily affects users with unused funds in the Nintendo eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Linking their NNID to a Nintendo Account and merging the wallets before the deadline allows them to utilize those funds for digital purchases on Nintendo Switch after March 11. This includes downloadable games, DLC, content passes, and other similar items.
Importantly, creating a Nintendo Account and initiating the merge process is possible even without currently owning or using a Nintendo Switch console. So there’s really no excuse for missing the deadlines since Nintendo had thought up what you needed. Once you’ve merged any account, they cannot be unmerged, so this is a permanent thing.
If you have not yet, you better get on it. When you merge Nintendo Accounts and Nintendo IDs, you’ll be able to use the Nintendo eShop balance on Nintendo Switch, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS family systems. This keeps you from losing the money you’ve spent to get that balance. You can see how to link your Nintendo account, how to get your funds after linking, and the termination notice of the service all on Nintendo’s Website.
Remember, the deadline to merge NNID and Nintendo Account eShop funds is March 11, 2024, 10:00 PM PT. If you don’t want your unused Wii U and 3DS eShop balances to disappear, make sure you act before then.
