Nintendo Live, a family friendly in-person event celebrating the brand’s biggest games and more, will officially arrive in Seattle on September 1st, 2023.
The event will run through September 4th, and Nintendo fans can register for a chance to receive free tickets between May 31st and June 22nd, 2023. Walk-up tickets won’t be made available, and there won’t be a waitlist, so you’ll have to be one of the lucky selections from a randomly selected drawing. Fortunately, you can still register a Nintendo Account family group for up to six people.
First announced last month, the event will feature gameplay, tournaments, stage performances and more at the Seattle Convention Center. Here’s the big date reveal from the Nintendo of America Twitter feed, including a link to the new attendance details:
Nintendo fans have been left speculating about whether or not this Nintendo Live event would somehow compromise an E3 showcase. After all, most heavy hitters are beginning to concentrate on their own showcases. For example, Ubisoft announced they would step out of E3 2023 at the end of last March.
However, this is basically a misunderstanding. Nintendo’s official event page has made it very clear that “no such announcements are planned” regarding product reveals.
A serious game showcase should not be expected, and anything like that will probably be reserved for E3 or later Directs. Instead, Nintendo Live has themed areas, tournaments for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon, and other activity-based entertainment. Although a showcase would be exciting, it would also make the event more of a business venture, and perhaps not so family friendly.
Nintendo Live feels equally ambitious and casual, and the new registration details do seem like they’re catering to families. The random draw and single-day tickets are fair, encourage families to register, and should allow more people to visit.
