Nintendo has just confirmed recent rumors about a new Nintendo Switch OLED model edition, officially announcing the Mario Red Edition system during today’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct. According to the direct, it will be available on October 6th, 2023.
The console, dock, and controllers will feature the Mario Red color, and a corner on the back of the dock will have a small silhouette of Mario. As revealed in the direct, there are also some hidden coins if you open up the back of the model.
Here are some promotional images of the console as seen in a new Twitter post from Nintendo of America’s official feed:

Naturally, the Mario Red Edition was hardly going to be something ornate, but that signature color might still be enough for hardcore fans to invest in this particular model. It’s both gorgeous and unmistakable, as well as on-brand for longtime fans.
The novelty of the hidden coins is also rather fun. Some fans certainly prefer their console to look tidy, rather than adding a load of visual clutter to your entertainment stand. So, the coins are a handy way to still get something that makes their OLED feel more like a collectible.
The Mario Red Edition isn’t too spectacular, especially compared to the competition, as Xbox recently announced the introduction of regular console wraps coming in October, starting with a Starfield-themed design. And PlayStation definitely made headlines with its imaginative Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 console.
but it’s a little inventive and should help tide fans over as they wait and hope for a Nintendo Switch 2 announcement, which is still rumored to come out sometime in the second half of the year.
