According to a well-believed leaker, the Nintendo Switch 2 is being called the ‘NG’, and is planned for release on September 24, 2024. There is also a placeholder for early November. They spoke about details on two models and a price, but this is pretty specific information.
Even if this leaker is credible, they’re still a leaker and their information should be taken with a grain of salt. The source of this information provided The Snitch with screenshots and details of Rise of the Ronin in recent months. Furthermore, this same person informed The Snitch about God of War: Ragnarok’s DLC development.
“There are two intended models, one being a standard one for 449 dollars with a digital option for 400 dollars. This is all I have for now.” The two messages are shown below in their entirety.

While we don’t want you to think this leaker is correct just because they were right before, the prices and release date for this Nintendo Switch 2 sound pretty believable. What sells it for us is the digital edition, as many consoles are starting to shy away from physical discs and hardware. Digital is the future of consoles, and it’d make sense for Nintendo to push forward with that.
In our opinion, it makes a lot of sense. The Switch was released in 2017, which means 2024 is seven years from that release. That’s about as long as a regular game console cycle lasts. Look at the regular time taken in between consoles for Nintendo:
- GameCube – September 14, 2001
- Wii – November 19, 2006
- Wii U – November 18, 2012
- Switch – March 3, 2017
The last consoles normally took five years, but due to the chip shortage, there were problems for many manufacturers. We assume that this is a one-time thing and that the console will follow the same five-year cycle after this next one. Due to how long Nintendo has already taken to release its next console, any rumor that the next switch is coming soon seems plausible.
