What’s Coming in Overwatch Season 9 Champions?

Season 9: Champions of Overwatch is set to introduce significant global balance changes affecting every hero, aiming for a more consistent damage output and a uniform increase in health pools to maintain the current time-to-kill metrics. A novel passive ability enabling heroes to regenerate health after stepping out of combat further enhances survivability, promising a refreshed gameplay experience that encourages strategic engagements and disengagements.

Pharah receives targeted updates this season to empower her with greater autonomy and reduce her dependency on specific allies like Mercy. The shift focuses on enhancing Pharah’s horizontal mobility for quicker area traversal and introducing calculated downtime in her flight, balancing her aerial dominance with strategic positioning challenges. The rework of Pharah’s Hover Jets, introduction of Jet Dash, and adjustments to her mobility aim to elevate her playability across skill brackets and diversify tactical options against her, making engagements more dynamic and skill-expressive.

Junkertown also undergoes a significant overhaul to improve gameplay flow and balance. Changes to the map’s first section aim to mitigate sniper dominance and enhance offensive team push potential through strategic environment modifications, including additional cover and sightline adjustments. Further alterations across the map, such as the removal of certain health packs and the addition of new cover elements, alongside a fresh night-time aesthetic, invite new tactical approaches and team fight dynamics, promising a revitalized Junkertown experience in Season 9.
