Palia, an upcoming free-to-play and live service MMO sim from developer Singularity 6, has just released a new gameplay showcase featuring a tour of Kilima Village, a core skills overview and more.
Palia does not currently have a release date, but the devs revealed in June that it’s expected to launch in Winter 2023. According to a recent tweet, the Closed Beta is scheduled for August 2nd, and an Open Beta is slated for August 10th, 2023. You can watch today’s new gameplay showcase on the official Palia YouTube channel:
In Palia, players can explore a cozy world together, build and customize homes, befriend and romance NPCs, and more. These are relatively traditional sim mechanics, and the fantasy world doesn’t have an especially distinguishable theme. But the friendly tone, epic MMO scope, and ambitious volume of mechanics might intrigue players who would ordinarily ignore the genre.
Today’s first look begins with character customization, which includes a decent variety of options and attire, which will be regularly updated. It also turns out that your character magically springs to life in some mysterious ruins, which does create some intrigue.
All of the basics are revealed too, such as crafting items. Players can craft straight from their storage, and there are auto-crafters. This is less tedious and reinforces the accessible approach of Palia. But players can also customize their buildings right down to the wallpaper and doors.
Palia also showed off a variety of traditional sim activities, skill management, and some building. Mostly, the devs focus on just how extensive a lot of these familiar mechanics will be. And all players who participate in these activities can benefit from completing them together, like gathering resources.
The NPCs feature amusing backstories and personalities. There’ll be friendship trackers and romance meters to complete through dialogue and gifts. Like the world itself, romance-able characters will evolve over time too.
