Since the release of Palworld, an open-world survival crafting game featuring collectible creatures, several similar titles have emerged. Chinese studios supported by Tencent also work on games heavily inspired by Palworld’s concept. One of these titles is Auroria, which emphasizes creature collection, base construction, and extensive world exploration, drawing parallels to PocketPair’s popular game.

Takuro Mizobe, CEO of PocketPair, has recognized this trend, mentioning the big investment in games inspired by Palworld, which was developed in China. As reported by automaton-media, he points out that some projects have much larger budgets than Palworld. Mizobe thinks this trend will keep going and could result in game releases with production values similar to the popular title Genshin Impact.

It’s funny that these companies aren’t saying Pokémon when it’s what we’re all thinking. Palworld is the trailblazer that took the monster-catching formula and did a lot of good with it. It shows that Pokémon doesn’t own this particular genre and that others can come in to improve on it. If anything, the true Pokémon killer is that so many games are coming for its crown, giving players multiple different games to play.

PocketPair doesn’t see these developments as a competition. Palworld’s community manager, Bucky, recently supported a similar game, DokeV. DokeV is another upcoming creature-collecting title developed by South Korean studio Pearl Abyss. After a fan referred to DokeV as a potential “Palworld killer,” Bucky instead praised the game’s soundtrack and visuals, calling them “incredible.”

The increasing popularity of games resembling Palworld indicates a rising interest in titles that combine creature collection, crafting, and open-world exploration. This trend may offer players a wider range of choices within this genre.

While PocketPair knows there are more games like theirs, the studio seems okay with that. They support games like DokeV, showing that they might even like having lots of similar games. They think having more options can help players and the genre overall.

PocketPair plans to release significant updates for Palworld this year, such as a new island biome and a PvP mode. These updates aim to offer fresh content for fans of the original game as more titles inspired by it enter the market.
