Pocketpair, who made the creature-collecting and survival game Palworld, just released a big update for Xbox. The new version, v0.2.0.6, brings many changes that Xbox players have been eager for, but it also causes some important save data problems for both single-player and multiplayer modes. It’s really bad.
UPDATE: A fix was released.
One important problem was found after the update was announced on Twitter. The update brings a bug that stops players from putting eggs inside their incubators. We don’t need to tell you that’s a key part of the game’s creature breeding process. Pocketpair has recognized the issue and suggests players rebuild their incubators as a temporary solution. An official fix for the incubator problem is anticipated within the next few days.
While the egg incubator issue is inconvenient, there are more serious concerns surrounding the multiplayer save data bugs. According to the developers, attempting to load multiplayer save data from versions before v0.2.0.6 may cause data corruption on Xbox. Pocketpair advises players to wait to load any older multiplayer saves until a patch addressing this issue is available.
Essentially, once the new update is released, any multiplayer save data created with version v0.2.0.6 onwards will not work anymore until a fix is given. This means that progress made in multiplayer mode after the update might be lost when the patch arrives. I mean, thanks for the apology, but that’s really messed up.
They are literally telling a fanbase not to play their saves because the game isn’t working well. That shouldn’t be on the user at all. However, this sounds like an issue specifically on Microsoft because Baldur’s Gate 3 had this same issue when moving to Xbox. If anything, this would be Microsoft’s problem for developers to deal with.
Pocketpair is currently working on a patch to fix the issues with saving data in multiplayer. However, there’s no set release date for this yet. Until the patch is ready, it’s recommended that Xbox players avoid using old multiplayer saves and not start new multiplayer sessions. So, just don’t play multiplayer? Things aren’t looking so bright for Palworld on Xbox.
