Takuya Yamaguchi, Director of the upcoming Persona 3 Reload, expressed enthusiasm for the game’s Game Pass launch on February 2, 2024. This modern remaster of the JRPG will be available to all Game Pass subscribers on Xbox One, Series X/S, and PC. The interesting part is what Yamaguchi had to say.
Yamaguchi sees Game Pass as a gateway for new audiences to discover the Persona universe. He views it as an opportunity to gather valuable feedback from fresh perspectives and expand the series’ reach. It’s true that Game Pass and PlayStation Plus open the door to players who likely would not have bought this kind of game to try.
Yamaguchi acknowledged the long-standing affection for Persona 3, citing fan surveys that consistently ranked it as the desired remake within the series. The team strived to honor the game’s core elements while updating graphics, music, and gameplay features while introducing English voice acting. Producer Ryota Niitsuma echoed Yamaguchi’s sentiments, saying Persona 3 was a huge forerunner.
“We’ve done a lot of surveys with users and fans, and whenever we did a survey on what people wanted to see as a remake for the Persona series, the number one answer was always Persona 3. After Persona 5 Royal came out, the Persona team was ready for another project and we were trying to think about what to do. We were saying, ‘Hey, a remake could be pretty good. Everybody wants to see Persona 3, so this is the right time.’ The stars have aligned.”

According to an Xbox Wire Post, Persona 3 Reload’s Game Pass inclusion aligns with Atlus’ broader strategy of bringing the series to Xbox platforms. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any director or producer praise a service like these two praised Game Pass. It sounds like it helps franchises a lot more than I would have thought. If you are hoping to revisit Persona 3, now is your chance since it has been remastered and is free for anyone with a Game Pass subscription.
