Pikmin 4, an anticipated sequel in the hit real-time strategy series from developer and publisher Nintendo, has just released a brand-new trailer. Its cinematics feature the basic premise of the game with lots of humor, as well as brief gameplay of how you can customize your own character.
Pikmin 4 is slated to release on July 21st, 2023. It will exclusively be available on the Nintendo Switch, and pre-orders are available now. You can watch today’s new trailer on the Nintendo YouTube channel:
Today’s trailer for Pikmin 4 doesn’t show very much gameplay, but customizable characters are a big deal for the franchise. The new footage reveals some staples of character creation. Players will be able to adjust their face, body, expression, hair, clothes and skin tone. Since the game likely begins this way, it’s nice to see the fine print that players will get to change their look and name later on.
There seems to be a decent variety for your desired appearance, and all of the designs consistently capture the game’s beloved sense of humor. The friendly and comedic tone of the game is reinforced by today’s trailer, with some fun narration and the premise about rescuing a failed rescue team.
Although gameplay wasn’t the focus of today’s trailer, Nintendo already released an extensive look during last February’s Direct. The trailer showcased a variety of enemies, and introduced fans to the new Ice Pikmin, which can freeze both enemies and its surroundings. Here’s the full trailer from Nintendo’s YouTube channel:
Despite the AR spin-off Pikmin Bloom, the series proper hasn’t been around for a long time. It’s terrific to see how much Pikmin 4 picks right up where Pikmin 3 left off, elaborating in small but effective ways.
