Planet Zoo, the hit zoo simulator from developer and publisher Frontier Developments, will officially release an Arid Animal pack DLC featuring eight new creatures on June 20th, 2023. The DLC will also add a new campaign scenario set in the Arabian Desert, where players will need to help Tiffany Summers prepare for a new zoo.
According to the DLC’s Steam page, the new creatures will include the dromedary camel, African crested porcupine, addax, Somali wild ass, black rhino, sand cat and dama gazelle as habitat species, as well as the desert horned viper as an exhibit reptile. Naturally, these all come with their own unique animations.
Planet Zoo is available now on PC, and there’s still no word on a console release. Like the Tropical Pack, which was introduced in the April update, the Arid Animal Pack will cost $9.99 on Steam. You can watch a new trailer for the Arid Animal Pack on the Planet Zoo YouTube channel:
It’s a little disappointing that the campaign scenarios still can’t break the mold, but the setting and animals that were selected for the new DLC are definitely appealing.
To begin with, the scenery in today’s trailer is absolutely gorgeous, full of majestic landscapes and decorations that make the most of its theme. Such unique transportation plays a big role in making a Planet Zoo DLC worthwhile. The lighting, rolling hills, and structures have finely detailed textures, too.
The creatures themselves, the stars of the trailer, have some incredible animation. Perhaps not all of the visuals are as impressive as previous DLC, but the camels are undoubtedly a highlight. There’s also a decent variety of content, which should add compelling new responsibilities.
