With the range of titles available, it can be hard to know which games are worth your time. To that end, various platforms have implemented rating systems to give players better information, with PlayStation apparently being the latest to add a new five-star rating system to its storefront.
This news was first noticed through an exchange on Twitter, where known PlayStation enthusiast Shuhei Yoshida shared a thread from the developer of Eternights after “Very Positive” reviews on Steam. One user replied with a picture showing the game had also been doing well on the PlayStation, with Eternights roughly sitting at nearly four and a half stars out of five.
While this new rating system could be good to help players gauge their interest in new titles, it also has the potential to be abused by players for political or social reasons. As has been seen with the rating system on gaming platforms like Steam and critic websites, disgruntled audiences will work together to negatively impact a score due to one specific issue.
Whether or not PlayStation has a way to combat this is yet to be seen, but it’s hard to imagine it has when other platforms with rating systems have been struggling with it for years. With the system being implemented recently, it’s likely to undergo changes and fine-tuning as the developer rolls out the program to all users.
