My Time at Sandrock, the hit indie RPG sim from developer and publisher Pathea Games, will officially be ported to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 sometime next summer. An exact release date has not been confirmed. The summer release coincides with the recent Nintendo port announcement.
My Time at Sandrock has been available in Early Access since May 2022, so you can play it on PC now. You can watch the full PlayStation announcement trailer on PlayStation’s YouTube channel:
Perhaps the biggest highlight of My Time at Sandrock is how well-crafted the NPC mechanics are, including a wide variety of personalities and backstories. It really makes the world worth exploring, and the devs have consistently continued to expand key features throughout Early Access.
The “Knives Out” update only just launched two weeks ago. The title will probably call the murder mystery film to mind. Although there are some conspiracies to solve, it also introduced the cheerful marriage system, which is a common sim feature that allows even stronger relationships with the NPCs. The most anticipated addition for a full launch will be multiplayer, which was playtested back in January. It’s a little unfortunate that multiplayer won’t be part of the main story, since it would have improved the central themes and interactions. However, it should be a nice addition for console players.
My Time at Sandrock already feels suited for console ports, since it is so story-driven and doesn’t necessarily play as much like a PC game compared to similar titles. The mechanics are easy to pick up, and should translate well. However, Nintendo’s mobility might give it an edge over a PlayStation port, as the game is so cozy and casual.
