Rumors are circulating that a major PlayStation Showcase is just weeks away, as sources have informed VGC of Sony’s plans to hold a digital event showcasing upcoming PlayStation games. The event could take place at the end of May or in early June, just ahead of other prominent gaming events like Summer Game Fest. Journalist Jeff Grubb also supports these claims, suggesting that the PlayStation event might happen during the week of May 25.
If accurate, the PlayStation Showcase would kick off a series of significant video game showcases in the absence of the recently cancelled E3 2023. The Summer Game Fest, a “global fan celebration of what’s next in video games,” will return for its fourth year with a live kick-off show on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the YouTube Theater in Hollywood Park, Inglewood, California. Following this event, Xbox Games Showcase is set to take place on Sunday, June 11, with Ubisoft Forward scheduled for Monday, June 12.
The last full-scale PlayStation showcase took place a while back, but the rumors suggest that Sony might have something big planned for this upcoming event. VGC’s Andy Robinson, known for accurately predicting announcements in the past, revealed that the showcase might include confirmation of a deal with Konami, potentially bringing a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, unspecified Silent Hill games, and possibly a new entry in the Castlevania series exclusively to PlayStation 5.
While PlayStation and Xbox fans have much to anticipate in the coming weeks, Nintendo seems to be taking a different approach. Robinson does not expect any major announcements from the Japanese company in the near future, despite speculation about a potential Nintendo Switch successor.
Sony has yet to confirm the rumored PlayStation Showcase, and considering their current approach to engaging with fans, it is likely that an official announcement will be made only a few days before the event.
