Pokémon GO players could be in for a major update with the possible addition of a new feature called Pokémon Fusion. A recent look into the Pokémon GO app’s code revealed numerous mentions of “Fusion,” including clues on how this feature might work in the game.
The datamine found by Eurogamer suggests that Pokémon Fusion may be connected to certain Legendary and Mythical Pokémon, particularly Necrozma. Mentions of “Lunar Fusion Energy” and “Solar Fusion Energy” suggest that Pokémon might require specific resources for fusion, possibly obtained through raid battles. Necrozma could merge with Solgaleo or Lunala, transforming into Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma, respectively.
The information indicates that players might be able to merge Kyurem with Reshiram or Zekrom. Additionally, there is a reference to the Mythical Pokémon Calyrex, suggesting the possibility of a fusion with either Glastrier or Spectrier. Notably, Niantic may have unintentionally hinted at these combinations previously, as fused versions of Kyurem were briefly accessible in the game last year.

From Datamine
While this datamine is significant, it’s essential to remember that these are just possible features. Datamines and leaks don’t always mean things are coming. However, these are pretty specific, and the feature itself is named. So we can see that Niantic is at least actively considering the concept of Pokémon Fusion, and we might see it debut soon.
The introduction of Pokémon Fusion could bring a significant change to the way Pokémon GO is played. The data also shows that fused Pokémon have limitations, as they cannot be left to defend Gyms. Players will likely need to “unfuse” the Pokémon to revert them to their original forms.
The datamine doesn’t confirm an official release date for Fusion, but it aligns with the potential appearance of Necrozma at Pokémon GO Fest 2024. These events, happening worldwide over the summer, would be a fitting opportunity to introduce such a major new mechanic to the game.
