Pokémon has just released a new cinematic teaser for an upcoming collaboration with Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum, which is expected to begin on September 28th, 2023, according to a new twitter post from Pokémon’s official feed.

Today’s teaser shows off Pikachu and Eevee discovering some familiar Van Gogh imagery, and fans ultimately caught a glimpse of a Sunflora-themed piece. It’s a brilliant little nod to Van Gogh’s work with sunflowers. You can watch today’s full teaser for the real-life event on Pokémon’s official YouTube channel:

This collaboration is a welcome surprise, though certainly niche and exclusive. As a result, many casual fans probably won’t be too invested. Marketing wisely chose two of the cutest, popular Pokémon to get involved, though Smeargle would’ve been more appropriate.

Either way, this is still a fascinating event. And although further details haven’t been released yet, today’s announcement post does mention that more information is “coming soon”. This will ideally reveal the various subjects, schedules, and pricing. Unfortunately, visiting the museum will likely be a pretty expensive trip for most.

Given the Sunflora artwork, fans can begin to speculate on other Van Gogh twists. While sunflowers are more obvious, it’ll be interesting to see how different Pokémon could be incorporated into other classic works of art.

Vincent van Gogh’s iconic Starry Night appears to be a sure thing, but there are countless other pieces to consider. And Pokémon have greatly expanded their design range over the years, imitating mundane objects like a set of keys or appliances.

Pokémon held a massive Presents showcase just last month, with updates ranging from a variety of live events like Worlds, to brand-new animated series and the highly anticipated Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. But there was no word about the museum collaboration.

Hopefully, there’ll be a new update soon about how this new wave of artwork could impact the rest of the franchise, potentially showing up in the TCG or as cosmetics in the various games.
