Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have officially released a new gameplay trailer for their upcoming The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, as part of Nintendo’s massive new Direct today. The trailer showcases a variety of Pokemon that fans can expect, including lots of Gen 2 classics and mysterious new additions such as The Loyal Three, who were said to protect the new area.
The Teal Mask DLC is still expected to roll out in Fall 2023, and a release date still hasn’t been confirmed. You can watch today’s new trailer on the official Pokémon YouTube channel:
There are a lot of surprises in today’s trailer, including both a trip down memory lane and the unexpected reveal of the most mysterious Pokémon that will appear in The Teal Mask. It may have been best to preserve the intrigue of “The Loyal Three” and so forth, but it’s admittedly exciting to see the new flavor and themes for these upcoming additions.
Some of the nostalgic Pokémon will include Gligar, Sentret, Aipom, Corpish and Wooper. This leans heavily into Gen 2, which is an absolute delight. There isn’t much to go on with the new people that are introduced in today’s trailer, though Carmine appears to be your guide.
The Festival of Masks is a terrific idea, because it gives the new area a real sense of culture, and makes it feel lived-in. It should also provide plenty of activities, and plenty of new vendors, as seen in the trailer. Discovering new food in Scarlet and Violet is always fun.
As usual, the DLC looks a little light on story, especially with The Indigo Disk. But they still seem heavy on atmosphere and content, between the Festival of Masks and the Terrarium. It’s a relief to see how many fresh things will be added, so that it doesn’t rely entirely on nostalgia.
