Pokémon Sleep is an innovative new game from The Pokémon Company that will reward players who are able to get some extra sleep and record it in the app. In the Pokémon Sleep trailer about how to play released this morning, players can get a new look at the Style Dex, the gameplay during the day, and how the app will track their sleep.
Essentially, players will track each night’s sleep in the app, with the more sleep they accrue unlocking smaller emoji-like images called Styles. The more healthy sleep cycles you get, the higher chance you’ll have of getting better styles. During the day, players can cook meals for a Snorlax and see him grow over time, with better chances of rare Styles appearing the larger he is.
The app goes a little deeper than that though, as it seems that it will also be able to record you in your sleep and later play back any sounds you made. Based on how the app measures your sleep cycles, it will assign you a sleeping type similar to the classic Pokémon categories that include Dozing, Snoozing, and Slumbering. Based on your type, different Pokémon will show up.
The trailer also tries to detail some requirements in a cute way by associating them with the Pokémon Sleep styles, but you’ll need to make sure that your phone is plugged in, your screen stays on, and it lays face down on a softer surface like a pillow next to you.
