The anime comedic duo, Popuko and Pipimi, will finally return for the second season of Pop Team Epic in October!
Pop Team Epic, otherwise known as Poputepipikku, is originally a Japanese four-panel surreal comedy webcomic and digital manga series written and illustrated by Bkub Okawa. It began its serialization on Takeshobo’s Manga Life Win website in August 2014. Takeshobo has released a total of three volumes in Japan. Eventually, the webcomic was licensed in North America by Vertical of Kodansha USA Publishing. An anime television series adaptation animated by Kamikaze Douga and produced by King Records aired from January to March 2018 with two special episodes that premiered in April 2019. The anime series adaptation of Pop Team Epic features a repeated 15-minute episode with male voice actors in one viewing and female voice actresses in the other.
Pop Team Epic follows the misadventures of two 14-year-old girls named Popuko and Pipimi. In every episode, the girls find themselves in a variety of mundane as well as odd circumstances, and their responses to these events are equally weird and exaggerated. The anime series is well known for its frequent parodies of pop culture as well as its combination of surrealism, absurdity, and non-sequitur, all of which have made a significant contribution to its development of a huge fan base among audiences all over the world.
Finally, a second season by Kamikaze Douga and Space Neko Company is set to premiere on October 1, 2022, as part of the Fall anime season. Meanwhile, Japanese writer and director Jun Aoki returns for the production of the comedy anime series. It is still unknown whether the second season will retain its previous cast and the same format of having repeated episodes with different voice actors.
