Poppy Playtime, the runaway indie horror hit from developer and publisher Mob Entertainment, has released a new teaser trailer for Chapter 3. It confirms that Chapter 3 will be titled Deep Sleep, release sometime in Winter 2023, and features a clawed new enemy.

Poppy Playtime originally launched in 2021, and the first two chapters are available now on PC via Steam. Each new chapter is released as separate, paid DLC. You can watch today’s Chapter 3 teaser on the Mob Entertainment YouTube channel:

Poppy Playtime has surprisingly expanded a lot in just a couple of years. The official spin-off Project: Playtime has an asymmetrical multiplayer twist, where one player controls a monstrous enemy while the others attempt to survive. You can even find Roblox Poppy Playtime Tycoon, and just yesterday we created a code list for July.

Today’s trailer is unexpectedly quiet, instead terrifying you with its atmospheric sound effects, creepy drawings, and mysterious writing on the wall.

The writing introduces a lot of hints about the new enemy with phrases like “the original saved me”, “he gives me nightmares”, and “my somniferous flock”. It also seems to be killing the other threats, which is definitely an interesting escalation that expands the lore.

The previous teaser for Chapter 3 featured a gas mask, implying that players will literally have to avoid induced sleep. Contending with obstacles while drowsy and losing vision would be really neat. Given the new enemy’s theme, it’s possible that the devs could include a surreal nightmare stage at some point, which would be a drastic shift in gameplay.

The opening of today’s trailer also shows off Playcare, which seems to offer a very different environment, though little is revealed.
