A recent post on the Armored Core Subreddit has caught the attention of fans, as it seemingly features the keyart for the upcoming FromSoftware game, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. The image in question portrays a battle-worn mech on one knee, fueling anticipation for the game’s release.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is an eagerly awaited mecha-based vehicular combat game, developed by FromSoftware. Marking the first installment in the Armored Core series since 2013’s Armored Core: Verdict Day, the game is slated for release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.

The storyline of Armored Core VI unfolds on the distant planet Rubicon 3, where humanity stumbles upon a groundbreaking energy source capable of significantly advancing its technological prowess. However, this discovery leads to a disastrous event, consuming the entire star system in a fiery inferno. Half a century later, humanity rediscovers this enigmatic resource and makes another attempt to harness its power. Players take on the role of an independent mercenary, piloting the iconic Armored Cores and accepting contracts from alien mega-corporations and opposing resistance factions.

The development of Armored Core VI dates back to September 2016, when FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki mentioned a new entry in the series was in its early stages. Later, in January 2022, the potential development of a new Armored Core installment was leaked during a focus test. The game was officially announced at The Game Awards 2022 held in December. Masaru Yamamura, lead game designer on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, will make his directorial debut with Armored Core VI, taking over from Miyazaki, who had initially overseen the project. The game’s producer will be Yasunori Ogura.

Both Miyazaki and Yamamura have stated that they were not intentionally pushing the game towards a Soulslike style of gameplay, maintaining the unique identity of the Armored Core series. With this potential keyart leak, the anticipation for Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon continues to grow, as fans eagerly await its release.
