PowerWash Simulator, the surprise hit about cleaning up with high-pressure water from developer FuturLab and publisher Square Enix, has just launched free Update 1.2, “The Muckingham Files”.

The update was first announced last week and features a return to classic areas from the base game, but with all-new content. There will be three new levels, new stories for existing bonus jobs, and more.

PowerWash Simulator is available now on PC, Nintendo Switch, and current or last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. You can watch today’s new Muckingham Files update trailer on the PowerWash Simulator YouTube channel:

PowerWash Simulator has been quite busy with crossover IP, lately. The Midgar Special Pack, a Final Fantasy collaboration, turned out to be just as monumentally popular as the crossover with Tomb Raider. Both were introduced as free DLC, making them a no-brainer to try out, and probably inviting new fans of the classic Square Enix properties. Surely, even more IP is still in store.

And so, it’s a welcome surprise that PowerWash Simulator is finally going back to basics, literally revisiting the base game. Newcomers have probably joined the fanbase, and the relatively short game launched into Early Access in 2021, so the devs have timed Update 1.2 well.

Today’s trailer appears to be referencing The X-Files, but the narration and old school theremin also hint at some of the cheesier reality shows that cover otherwise interesting phenomena. It’s a terrific approach that fit the mysterious new Satellite Dish and Solar Water Plant, as well as the nostalgic theme of returning to the beginning of the game.

The devs also addressed some of the more serious bugs for today’s patch, namely the consistent progress loss and network stability issues. Hopefully, the devs can continue this support pacing for PowerWash Simulator, which still has plenty more to offer.
