PUBG players will be happy to know the original Erangel map is coming back. The “Erangel Classic” event aims to revisit the classic features players loved in the early days of PUBG. This is a lot like Fortnite bringing back the ‘OG’ map that players often requested, leading to a new golden age for the game.
The Erangel Classic event is scheduled for May. PC players will start on May 14th, 2024, and the map will be available until May 28th, 2024. The event for console players on May 23rd, 2024, runs until June 6th, 2024. During this time, Erangel Classic will replace the standard Erangel map in Normal Match.
Players can look forward to a range of features aimed at bringing back the classic PUBG vibe. The reappearance of gloomy, foggy, and rainy weather will create a distinctly nostalgic atmosphere on the battlefield. The starting island will also include bench weapons, leading to a chaotic rush as players compete for their favorite weapons.
The user interface will have a vintage aesthetic, featuring an old world map, minimap, and classic font. The gunplay will feel similar to early PUBG, with reduced weapon recoil on most weapons. Furthermore, the iconic Tommy Gun will come back as an exclusive Care Package weapon. Other minor adjustments will enhance the classic feel. The time it takes to recover after being knocked down will be extended to match previous versions, and players will discover helmets and clothing spread across the map.
While Erangel Classic is a throwback to the past, it won’t be an exact copy of the original. The PUBG team plans to make subtle gameplay adjustments to keep the experience enjoyable for players in the current version of the game. More information about these balance changes and other nostalgic features will be available in the patch notes on May 13th, 2024.
