Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of Rockstar’s most successful titles of all time. In just a few weeks after the game’s release, Red Dead Redemption smashed several sale records, becoming one of the fastest-selling video game releases of all time and shifting an incredible 17 million copies in just two weeks. With RDR2’s success came Red Dead Online, which despite a lack of attention from Rockstar and much criticism from fans still sees some popularity from players. These players may have something to look forward to come late July.

In a tweet by Tez2, a reliable source for leaks from Rockstar Games, a cryptic announcement is given regarding Red Dead Online’s lack of content. Retweeting their own meme post, a screencap from SpongeBob Squarepants mocking RDO’s lack of content with the caption “soon”, Tez2 ominously gives us the date July 19, and nothing more. From the context of the tweet Tez2 was adding onto, we can assume this means we may be getting some new content for RDO on this date.

This date coincides with the end of GTA Online’s current update roadmap. This may hint toward a shift in focus from Rockstar’s online teams away from GTA Online to Red Dead Online. It may also suggest that Rockstar planned to release new content during a predicted dip in GTA Online’s popularity, hoping to get players to engage in both online games.

This comes on the tailwind of Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick responding to the #SaveRedDeadOnline movement. In an official press conference, Zelnick said “Rockstar Games talks about the updates that are coming, and we’re working on an awful lot at Rockstar Games. I’ve heard the frustration, it’s flattering that they want more content, and more will be said by Rockstar in due time.”
