Redfall Developer Was Actively Trying To Improve Game Before Closure

Arkane Austin was reportedly working to address Redfall's issues before Microsoft's sudden closure of the studio.

After Microsoft closed Arkane Austin, the developer of the vampire co-op shooter Redfall, it was reported that the studio was working on updates and DLC for the game. Sources indicated that the team had plans for ongoing support, making the abrupt closure and termination of development surprising for staff.

According to IGN, in an upcoming update, Redfall would have added features requested by players. They would have worked on allowing offline single-player mode in response to criticism regarding its constant internet requirement, even for single-player gameplay. This makes sense because we’ve seen Bethesda try and fix issues with Redfall. Harvey Smith, the game director, mentioned in an interview with Eurogamer that the team was actively working on this issue.

Despite a previous promise, an offline mode never happened. This significant May update was supposedly in the works to bring an offline capability and other improvements. However, this planned update was canceled after Microsoft announced the closures. With the closure of Arkane Austin, it’s uncertain if and when Microsoft will tackle the ongoing concerns about Redfall’s online requirement and the risk of the game becoming unplayable if servers are eventually taken offline.

Arkane Austin had intended to release additional content for Redfall, such as a Hero Pass and two new playable characters, in time for Halloween. However, due to the studio’s closure, we’ll likely not see this DLC and will have to deal with credits.

The game Redfall received negative feedback from critics and players and is seen as a letdown in Xbox’s recent game releases. Despite this, Arkane Austin seemed dedicated to improving the game before the announcement of its closure.

While we can’t confirm that Redfall was really going to add a non-online component in, we can say for certain any potential for the game ends with the studio’s closure.
