Redfall, an upcoming open world shooter from developer Arkane Austin and publisher Bethesda Softworks, has released a new trailer with more lore and gameplay. This included vampire rulers like The Hollow Man, Bloody Tom, Miss Whisper, and The Black Sun.

Redfall is slated to launch on May 2nd, 2023. It will be available on Xbox Series X|S, as well as PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. It’s also going to be on the Game Pass at launch. Here’s the new official story trailer from Xbox’s official YouTube channel:

Redfall has been a little divisive with fans, largely with regard to its tone and characters. However, the playfulness seems like it could lead to some genuine pulpy fun. The approach to the bloody action has a party game feel to it, and the game does emphasize cooperation.

Some of the hero abilities are also pretty creative. So hopefully, the vampire leaders that were introduced in today’s story trailer are going to have more inventive mechanics.

The character design is pretty solid, already. The Hollow Man looks a little generic at first sight, but those spider-like limbs over the torso are a neat idea. There are enough distinguishing features that would allow for some surprising mechanics.

Redfall has probably already revealed more than enough for horror and shooter fans to make up their minds. So, today’s trailer isn’t going to win over skeptics. But it does add some intrigue to the mythology, which has gotten a lot of undue hate for its charming simplicity.

And either way, the game is going to be available on Game Pass, so subscribers will surely give it a try based on the premise alone.
