Rumors are going around that Larian Studios, the developer behind the acclaimed RPG Baldur’s Gate 3, is planning to expand its operations by opening a new studio in Poland. The information stems from two independent sources reported by GamePressure, a Polish gaming website. While the studio has not made any official announcements, the reports suggest the new branch could be set up in Warsaw, a major Polish game development industry hub.
While details remain scarce, the reports claim the Polish studio wouldn’t be Larian’s first foray into international expansion. The studio, once considered an independent team, has grown to encompass six branches worldwide. This includes locations in Barcelona, Dublin, Ghent, and Guildford. Notably, Polish developers from Anshar Studios (known for titles like Gamedec and Zoria: Age of Shattering) collaborated on Baldur’s Gate 3, indicating a familiarity and working relationship between Larian and Polish development talent.
It’s important to remember that these reports should be treated with caution until Larian Studios makes an official announcement. The studio has not responded to requests for comment from GamePressure, and their current job listings don’t mention any new studio openings. Additionally, plans can always change, and there’s no guarantee that the Warsaw location will be confirmed, even if the rumors are true.
However, the rumors hold some weight considering Larian’s past collaborations with Polish developers and their history of international expansion. Establishing a presence in Poland, a nation with a thriving game development scene and a large talent pool, could provide the studio with valuable resources and expertise for future projects.
This doesn’t even mention how much of a success Baldur’s Gate 3 was. I consider it one of the best games ever made, and the sales back up that statement. When a game is that much of a success, expanding seems to be the right thing to do so that you can make more games. However, we’ll have to see if this rumor is true, but we’ll keep you updated.
