Riot Games just announced that $5.4 million has been raised thanks to the impressive efforts by their player base to support humanitarian efforts in eastern Europe.
Previously, Riot Games announced that all proceeds from March 5th through March 12th from Valorant, Legends of Runeterra, Teamfight Tactics, Wild Rift, as well as new Bee skin line in League of Legends, would be donated.
According to the UN, over 6.5 million people have been displaced since February 24th with approximately an additional 3.7 million that have fled Ukraine, so that there are over 10 million people impacted–one quarter of Ukraine’s population.
Here’s how the money will be used to help:
$1.8 million for the International Medical Corps
The organization is on the ground in Ukraine and has their logistical and support hub located in Poland, along with teams in Moldova and Romania. They are working to provide emergency health services, such as specialist physicians, general practitioners, and nurses, along with mental health and psychosocial support for those affected by the war. They are also offering gender-based violence responsive services to protect women, children, and others who face increased risks. Learn more.
$1.8 million to Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders
The MSF has long been a presence in Ukraine and are currently mobilized to launch emergency operations. They have teams in Ukraine, Poland, Moldova, Hungary, Slovakia, Russia, and Belarus. Staff on the ground are working to assess the needs of people displaced and affected by the war in Ukraine, such as providing medical supplies and training hospitals to handle mass casualty incidents. MSF surgeons have been working remotely to help train surgeons in key hospitals in Ukraine to help tend to those wounded. Learn more.
$1.8 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross
The ICRC’s water engineers and doctors are helping over 3 million people get clean water access and helping to improve the living conditions of over 60,000 people who have had their homes damaged by the heavy fighting in Ukraine. Learn more.
