Following recent speculation, a developer at Rocksteady Studios has addressed rumors that the studio initially pitched a Superman game before switching gears to the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. I remember the rumor circulating back around the announcement of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but apparently, there was an attempt to stop it early on.
James Sigfield, a user on X formerly known as Twitter, had previously claimed to have inside information about a scrapped Superman project. (Thanks Bloomberg!) However, Sigfield has since admitted to being mistaken in a direct message exchange. “I corrected it in a later tweet, but it never caught on,” he acknowledged. “The person that gave me the info got the studios mixed up.”
Rocksteady itself has further confirmed the rumor’s inaccuracy, with sources close to the studio stating that no Superman game was ever pitched or developed. Instead, following the 2015 release of Batman: Arkham Knight, the studio reportedly focused on a Batman VR game and an unannounced, original multiplayer project.
The Superman rumor’s persistence likely stems from disappointment surrounding Rocksteady’s shift to a multiplayer live-service format with Suicide Squad. Fans are already attacking Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League because of its live service features.
As someone who played the game early, I can say it was incredible. It was far more fluid than any shooter I’ve played before, and each character felt distinctly different in terms of power and combat. I thought this was a step above Arkham Knight, and I’m unsure why so many people don’t like it if they haven’t played it. We’ll have to see what the reception is, but this rumor didn’t help the uphill battle Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League faced.
