Roguematch: The Extraplanar Invasion, an innovative blend of roguelike RPG and match-3 gameplay, is now available in early access. Set within a castle overrun by extra-dimensional creatures and raw magic, players must strategize and plan their attacks, whether physical strikes or elemental magic bursts, while carefully observing enemy movements.
The castle is not only filled with foes, but it’s also under a stringent lockdown due to an activated magical intruder alarm system. Players must deactivate this system, which involves uncovering floor sigils, blasting mana-infused crystals, and stepping on raised floor panels. Intriguingly, the castle’s defense system seems overly intricate, suggesting a threat more formidable than a mere Nekomancer seeking the Nekonomicon.
Players must also navigate the castle’s many rooms, many of which have been overrun by elemental forces. From lava-spewing Cryovolcanic Planes to superheated gases from the Elemental Plane of Steam, the environment itself poses significant challenges. Additionally, the sticky floors of the Elemental Plane of Mud can impede progress, but clever players can use these environmental hazards to their advantage by luring enemies into traps.
Roguematch’s gameplay features turn-based combat in a grid-based environment with randomly generated level layouts and items. An elemental mana match-3 system allows players to manipulate the raw magic permeating the castle. Six unique matching powers, including Time Pieces that freeze enemies and Wildcard sets for mana combo mastery, offer diverse strategies for navigating challenges.
Players can choose from six characters, each with unique skills and play styles. Whether it’s Binky, the quick-footed Bungeoneer, the cat-summoning Nekomancer, or the resilient Paladinu with a Shield Bash, each character provides a different gameplay experience.
The game includes over 100 spells and items that significantly influence the gameplay. Boost your stats or elemental damage, learn new spells, and manage your limited backpack space by discarding items but retaining the spells they contain.
Players will face more than 20 bosses from the elemental realms, each with distinct attack patterns and vulnerabilities. Using the elemental environment to your advantage is key. For instance, create windy conditions with mana, then match fire mana for chain lightning, or turn the room into an earthen domain and transform water mana into mud traps.
